An Active and Trustworthy Presence
IBC performs several important functions. First, it represents its members vis-à-vis the public and the
media, helps them meet their clients' needs and assists them in interpreting contract clauses and in
applying the various agreements to which insurers have subscribed. It also informs members of any fact
or situation that could have an impact on their profession and examines issues that concern them, such
as fire prevention or home burglary prevention, among others.
IBC is involved in all aspects of property and casualty insurance, acting as a single point of contact
for all information required by members and consumers. What's more, the reputation IBC has built up over
the years makes it a highly credible representative in the eyes of public authorities and concerned
organizations, allowing it to serve the interests of its members, their clients, and the public at large.
At the Heart of Strategic Issues
IBC always plays a leading role in addressing strategic issues such as the prevention and reduction of
catastrophic loss and the fight against fraud. To this end, it is actively involved in the Canadian
Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, as well as in the implementation of the Claims
Emergency Response Plan, which coordinates industry actions
during a major disaster or act of God.
When a natural disaster occurs, such as the January 1998 ice storm, IBC is quick to inform claimants about
their insurance coverage as well as what measures to take to avoid further damage.
IBC works in close collaboration with civil authorities. For example, following the June 1998 explosion
that destroyed Accueil Bonneau in Montréal, IBC's involvement helped to speed up the claims settlement process
so that rebuilding could begin as soon as possible.
A Committed Partner
IBC is also an active partner in several organizations, such as the Centre patronal de l'environnement du
Québec, the Chambre de commerce et de l'industrie du Québec métropolitain, the Canadian Coalition Against
Insurance Fraud, the Québec Public Security's advisory committee on crime prevention, the Conseil du patronat
du Québec and Info-Crime.
