The Insurance Bureau of Canada offers a multitude of services to its members-services that complement their regular activities: political representation, research and analysis, as well as public relations. These services make the IBC an invaluable ally on several fronts!

The IBC plays an active role on the political scene, ensuring that the interests of its members are taken into consideration when government bodies define policies, specify regulations or prepare bills that will have a direct or indirect impact on the property and casualty insurance industry.

Through its IBC-Québec Committee and via various working committees, the IBC consults its members about the current issues of importance. This allows the members to participate directly in decision-making concerning IBC positions vis-à-vis the federal and provincial governments.

The IBC is always watching over law-making bodies, and it does not hesitate to meet with authorities and prepare reports on a number of topics for eventual presentation to parliamentary commissions. Finally, the IBC carries out the necessary follow-up concerning the regulations that result from this work.

At the same time, the IBC provides it members with a great deal of technical and legal information, and provides expert advice concerning insurance contracts and standards and practices regarding property and casualty insurance. In addition to answering questions of an urgent nature, these experts also carry out research and analyses that are available to insurance companies.

Finally, the IBC is a spokesperson for the property and casualty insurance industry, assuming an active role in public relations-particularly with regard to media relations. Each year, IBC representatives participate in hundreds of interviews where the insurance products and major industry concerns are discussed, or when natural disasters and important events take place.
